Record-breaking temperatures were recorded in France, Spain, Portugal, and Italy in 2022. But just how abnormal were these temperatures?
To find out, we conducted a study comparing the temperatures of major cities in southwestern Europe to the climate normals of over 20,000 cities worldwide.

The results were staggering. Cities in France saw temperatures normally found in Spain, Madrid experienced heat levels comparable to those in Algeria, and many Italian cities resembled Greek or Turkish cities in terms of temperature.
